Microdermabrasion PDF Print E-mail

Microdermabrasion is a powerful but gentle anti-aging procedure that exfoliates, refreshes and renews your skin. It is an effective therapy that, when used alone, or in combination with surgery, facials, moisturizing treatments and chemical peels reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, brown spots, acne scars and other skin imperfections.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is mechanical peeling of the skin. It works on the epidermal layer of the skin

How does Microdermabrasion work?

Microdermabrasion directs a powerful stream of fine crystals and mild suction to the skin. The gentle abrasive action of the crystals combines with the suction to remove the dead outer layer of the skin while bringing the smoother, softer underlayer of the skin to the surface. This promotes a thicker and healthier dermis while promoting new skin and collagen growth.

What is it used for?

Microdermabrasion can be effective in the treatment of mild sun damaged skin, acne and mild acne scars, blackhead, and fine lines. Most patients get this done to "polish" the skin for a more youthful healthy glow.

What parts of the body can be treated?

Any part of the body can be treated. The most common areas are the face, neck, and chest.

How many treatments are necessary?

It is unpredictable how many treatments, as everyone is different and has different concerns. We offer single treatments or a package of five.

Is the treatment uncomfortable?

Microdermabrasion can be minimally uncomfortable for some patients. Most people tolerate it very well and many say that it is relaxing.

What does the area look like after treatment?

After the procedure the skin appears pink. For some patients the skin may have red/pink streaks for a short period of time. This is caused from the suction of the vacuum that removes the crystals. This usually only lasts for a few minutes. Most people notice an improved texture and quality to their skin immediately following the procedure.

How often do I need treatments?

Spacing of appointments can be different for everyone. Usually every 2 weeks to 8 weeks is common depending on what is being treated.
